Drawing tools and controls
N-Channel raster images are correctly separated by Illustrator CS3, thereby preserving the separations through printing. Layers can be color-coded, making them easier to identify in the layers palette.

Improved operating performance
Illustrator CS3 has been completely redesigned. Scrolling is now much faster, as are zooming and on-screen redraw—improvements that were long-anticipated. It’s also significantly faster at redrawing on-screen 3D elements.

Integration with Adobe Flash®
The old problems of coping something from Illustrator and pasting it into Flash are now gone. Now the process uses expan sion or rasterization. Flash grabs the Illustrator object from the Clipboard, gives you a choice of how to interpret it, and then places it onto the stage area.

Symbols for Flash
Symbols in Illustrator now mimic their behavior in Flash thanks to a robust SWF export interface and improvements to symbol workflow.

Isolation mode
Gone is the frustration of dealing with complex artwork. Objects in a group can be edited without disturbing the other parts of your artwork. Selecting hard-to-find objects is easily done without having to lock, restack, or hide layers.

Live Color
Color selection and management are easier thanks to Illustrator CS3's suite of new color tools, helping designers find appropriate matching colors for their work, facilitating experimentation with new colors, and allowing colors to be collectively managed, rather than individually. Color scheme suggestions are made by the Color Guide palette based on a range of selected objects. Click and drag on the color handles in the color wheel of the Live Color palette to modify the colors, while continuing to produce a harmonious color scheme.

Crop Area tool
Whether for print or export, crop areas can be defined interactively. Set crop marks intuitively, and choose preset web ratios or video formats with safe areas. Define multiple crop areas and easily move between them as needed.

Get Great Text Easy
Because of text linking enhancements, including the ability to link text on a path to other paths or to text boxes, you can also now delete a linked text box without deleting the text it contains. New options for text on a path, including styles such as Rainbow, Skew, 3D Ribbon, Stair Step and Gravity.

Lots of text effects
An object’s X, Y and Z axis may be altered, and 3D lighting effects applied, using a third 3D Effect called Rotate. However, neither mapped artwork nor any kind of shading other than "none" or diffuse are supported.

Helpful new features
The Custom tab leaders for inserting repeating characters within a tab, placing difficult characters in optimal positions with Optical kerning, and placing punctuation over text box and column margins by selecting Optical margin alignment.

Eraser tool
The Eraser tool allows areas of artwork to be easily erased in much the same way you would erase pixels in Photoshop. The width, smoothness and shape of the erasure can be completely controlled.
